What is Medical Technology?
Medical technology is the use of a device or invention to extend the life of patients, relieve pain and reduce risk of disease. It encompasses a wide range of health care products and, in one form or another, is used to diagnose, monitor or treat every disease or condition that affects humans. It works in clinical laboratories. It includes urinalysis, mamography, microbiology, hematology, serology and other laboratory works. It also extends and improves life.
Medical Technology is both a challenging and rewarding career. Medical Technologists play a key role in the modern laboratory. By performing scores of laboratory procedures in areas such as clinical chemistry, microbiology, hematology, serology and urinalysis, they help a physician to identify a patient's disease and evaluate effective treatment. The profession requires a desire to serve mankind coupled with a willingness to work quietly behind the scenes. Without medical technology, people never realized the wonder of sciences.
